Dr. Hem Dhakal

Dr. Hem R. Dhakal is the founder and executive director of Live Peace Tech. He was born and raised in a rural part of Nepal and came to the United States as a student in 2006. Dr. Dhakal has a PhD in organizational leadership and development and two master’s degrees (one in peace studies and conflict transformation and the other in English literature). He wrote his doctoral dissertation by conducting research on benefit organizations in Maryland and Virginia, has published several peer reviewed articles, and co-authored a book on leadership. In addition, Dr. Dhakal has founded and led two social enterprises and three nonprofits. He is passionate about teaching high schoolers valuable skills to become ecopreneurs, peace-builders, and changemakers.

Urmila Bhusal Dhakal

Urmila Bhusal Dhakal is Live Peace Tech’s assistant director. Urmila is an international educator, social justice advocate, and changemaker with over 18 years of experience in both the United States and Nepal. Urmila serves as a trainer for families, teachers, administrators, and is a dedicated children's and woman's rights activist. She has a track record of successfully operating both nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses. Urmila holds a master of education (M.Ed.), bachelor of science in education (BS.Ed.) in Career and Technical Education (CTE) from the United States, in addition to a bachelor of business studies, business management, and accounting (BBS) from Nepal.

Urmila’s hobbies and interests are diverse, including practicing and teaching yoga and meditation, singing, cooking a variety of dishes, and exploring new places while engaging with people from different cultures.
